It came in three variations: the infantry rifle with an 855mm barrel, the Jäger model with 750mm barrel, and a carbine with a 500mm barrel. It fired an 11mm bullet weighing 386 grains at a muzzle velocity of 1440 feet-per-second, from a rimmed brass case 60mm long. It replaced a mix of other infantry arms, including the Dreyse and the Werndl rifles.
